Woodside is a horse town in the hills above Palo Alto. It has kept its restaurants few on purpose. The village center along Woodside Road holds a famous fine-dining pub, a bakery, a diner and a market within a block of one another. Up the hill on Skyline Boulevard sits a roadhouse beloved by cyclists. Nearby Atherton and Portola Valley add a celebrated supper club, a neighborhood grill and one of California's oldest taverns.

This guide names only places we confirmed on their own websites in late October and early November 2026. Descriptions stay factual and the hours come from those sites. For the village's history, the Woodside Store and nearby parks, see our Woodside village guide.

Where the restaurants are

Most of Woodside's dining sits on a short stretch of Woodside Road (Highway 84) near Canada Road, in the village center. Alice's is several miles uphill on the same highway, where it meets Skyline Boulevard at a junction locals call Skylonda. Portola Valley's spots are a short drive south along Portola Road and Alpine Road. Selby's is in Atherton on El Camino Real, closer to Redwood City.

Fine dining

The Village Pub

The Village Pub opened in 2001 and is one of the Peninsula's most decorated restaurants. Its website says it has held one Michelin star every year since 2009. The wine program carries more than 3,500 labels and has won Wine Spectator's Grand Award every year since 2016. Executive chef Mark Sullivan was named one of Food & Wine's Best New Chefs soon after the opening. The site lists dinner nightly from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., lunch on Friday and brunch on weekends. In fall 2026 it promoted a white truffle dinner and Thanksgiving meals to go. Our Michelin guide covers starred restaurants near Palo Alto.

Selby's

Selby's at 3001 El Camino Real in Atherton comes from the same group, Bacchus Management, which describes it as Michelin starred. Its website pitches every visit as a celebration. The site says it serves dinner nightly and welcomes both reservations and walk-ins. Bacchus also runs Augustine on Santana Row; see our Santana Row food guide.

Everyday meals in the village

Buck's of Woodside

Buck's at 3062 Woodside Road calls itself a place for real food for the human race. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from 8 a.m. daily, closing at 9 p.m. most nights and 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Its quirky, memorabilia-filled room has long been known as a breakfast meeting spot for tech founders and investors. It also takes online orders.

The Village Bakery

The Village Bakery at 3052 Woodside Road is both a bakery and a restaurant with a bar. The bakery counter is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The restaurant serves lunch on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., brunch on weekends from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner nightly from 5 p.m. It is a Bacchus restaurant, like The Village Pub across the road.

Roberts Market

Roberts Market runs a full grocery at 3015 Woodside Road and a second store at 4420 Alpine Road in Portola Valley. Its deli counter is the village's best source of sandwiches for a ride or a hike at Huddart Park. The market also caters and posts holiday menus. Its site says it is closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Up on Skyline Boulevard

Alice's Restaurant at 17288 Skyline Boulevard sits among the redwoods at the junction of Highway 84 and Skyline. It serves gourmet burgers, sweet potato fries, scrambles and homemade pie. Its site lists hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and until 7 p.m. on Sunday. On weekends the lot fills with motorcycles and road bikes. Combine it with a hike at Windy Hill or the Skyline preserves.

Portola Valley

Rossotti's Alpine Inn

Rossotti's Alpine Inn at 3915 Alpine Road is a beer garden and tavern on the banks of Los Trancos Creek. The inn counts its history at 167 years and describes itself as one of California's oldest continuously operating taverns. Owners Deke and Lori Hunter bought it in 2018 and reopened it in August 2019 after a long refurbishment. The menu runs from burgers and breakfast sandwiches to local wines, including some from just down the road. It takes no reservations and closes on Mondays.

Parkside Grille

Parkside Grille at 884 Portola Road is Portola Valley's neighborhood dinner spot, a short walk from the town center. Its site lists dinner from 5 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday, until 8:30 p.m. most nights and 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is closed Monday.

Eating with kids

Buck's is the family classic in Woodside, with an all-day menu and a dining room full of odd objects to look at. The Alpine Inn's creekside beer garden works well with kids on a sunny afternoon, since the tables are outdoors and the menu is simple. Alice's suits older children after a drive up the mountain. The Village Pub and Selby's are better saved for adults. For a cheap outing, buy sandwiches at Roberts Market and eat at the picnic tables in Huddart Park or at another picnic spot nearby.

Holidays and busy times

Woodside's restaurants get busiest on sunny weekends, when cyclists, riders and day-trippers arrive at once. Weekend brunch at The Village Pub and The Village Bakery books up. In November and December the fine-dining rooms promote holiday menus and meals to go. Roberts Market takes orders for Thanksgiving dinners. Alice's and the Alpine Inn depend on the weather, so rain can mean an easy table or a shorter day. Check each site for holiday closures.

Planning your visit

  • Book The Village Pub and Selby's well ahead, especially for weekend dinners and holidays.
  • Expect Monday closures at the Alpine Inn and Parkside Grille.
  • Ride, then eat. Woodside is a classic cycling destination. You can rent a road bike if you are visiting without one.
  • Pair with Filoli. The estate's gardens are a few minutes north. See our Filoli guide.
  • Stay nearby. Woodside has no hotels in the village. You can compare hotels near Woodside in Menlo Park or Redwood City.

Good to know

  • We list only places confirmed on their own websites in late 2026. Leaving a restaurant out does not mean it has closed.
  • Woodside Bakery is no longer in Woodside; it moved to Sharon Heights in Menlo Park.
  • Hours on this page come from restaurant websites and can change without notice.
  • Skyline Boulevard is often foggy and cool, so bring a layer.
