About Reposado
Reposado is a Mexican restaurant on Hamilton Avenue in downtown Palo Alto. It describes itself as Mexican fine dining with a large selection of tequilas. Its name comes from one of the tequila categories on its list. The restaurant says its menu is seasonal and vegetarian friendly.
Reposado is part of a small local restaurant group. A second Reposado operates on Baldwin Avenue in San Mateo. Its sister restaurants are the Palo Alto Creamery on Emerson Street, Scratch on Castro Street in Mountain View and the British Bankers Club in Menlo Park.
The restaurant is open for lunch on weekdays, brunch on weekends and dinner every night. That long schedule gives you plenty of ways to fit in a visit.
What is on the menu
The menu mixes small plates, salads and sandwiches, larger entrées and desserts. Recent listings include:
- Small plates. Pulpo y camarón, a red snapper ceviche, house made guacamole and shrimp empanadas.
- Salads and sandwiches. The Ensalada Reposado, a poblano sandwich and a chicken torta.
- Entrées. Rotisserie chicken with mole, salmon Yucatán, carne a la parrilla and enchiladas Oaxaqueñas.
- Brunch. Huevos Oaxaqueños, chilaquiles verdes and pan francés on weekends.
- Desserts. Tres leches, platano enmielado and a chocolate pudding made with tequila, which is served only to guests 21 and over.
There is a children's menu for kids under 12, which helps on family outings. The menu changes with the seasons, so treat these dishes as examples.
Tequila, mezcal and the bar
The bar is a big part of Reposado. The restaurant says all its margaritas use 100 percent blue agave tequila and fresh squeezed lime juice. The tequila list is organized by age, from blanco through reposado and añejo to extra añejo, plus mezcal from Oaxaca. If you are new to agave spirits, the bar offers tasting flights in introduction, featured and premium tiers.
Signature drinks include a Cadillac Margarita, a Reposado Old Fashioned, the Mula Oaxaqueña and a prickly pear cocktail. Mocktails such as the Mucho Loco Tamarindo and the Jamaiquita cover anyone who is not drinking. The list also includes Mexican, European and American craft beers and a long wine list.
Happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the bar, with money off bar menu items and on selected wines by the glass, beers and cocktails.
Groups and private events
Reposado is set up for large groups. The Palo Alto restaurant lists a private mezzanine with a full bar for up to 50 guests and a bar height chef's table in front of the kitchen for 12 to 16. The main dining room can host up to 120. A full buyout can hold up to 250. Parties of 15 or more must arrange a pre-set menu in advance. The menu notes an automatic gratuity for parties of six or more.
Who it suits
Reposado covers a lot of occasions. Weekday lunch works for a business meal close to the downtown offices. Weekend brunch and the children's menu make it a practical family choice. The mezzanine and chef's table suit birthdays, team dinners and rehearsal dinners. Anyone curious about agave spirits can learn a lot from a tasting flight at the bar. The restaurant describes its menu as vegetarian friendly, but ask your server which dishes fit your diet, since the menu changes with the seasons.
