City Express by Marriott Mountain View/Sunnyvale is a small, practical hotel on El Camino Real in Mountain View. It belongs to City Express by Marriott, a midscale brand that began in Latin America and is now being added to hotels in the United States. Marriott's page calls this property new to Marriott and fully renovated. The appeal is simple: free parking, a free breakfast and a location about a mile from downtown Mountain View and its Caltrain station. There is no pool, no restaurant in the usual sense and no pets.

The Sunnyvale in the name is a little misleading. The hotel is in Mountain View, west of the Sunnyvale line. Map listings still show an earlier name for the building, Hotel Vue, so do not be surprised if a map app shows both. This profile is based on Marriott's official page, checked in early November 2026. We do not publish star ratings or reviews. For live rates, check City Express Mountain View on Booking.com or book with Marriott.

Location and distances

The address is 64 West El Camino Real, Mountain View, CA 94040. That is on the stretch of El Camino Real south of downtown Mountain View, among motels, offices and shops. Castro Street, the city's restaurant row, crosses El Camino Real a short way west of the hotel and runs north to the train station.

El Camino Real runs straight from the hotel to Palo Alto and Stanford, which makes the drive simple. At rush hour the same trip can take twice as long. Our driving guide covers the main routes into Palo Alto.

Caltrain and buses

This is one of the better hotels on El Camino Real in Mountain View for car-free visitors. The Mountain View station is roughly a 20-minute walk north, much of it along Castro Street, or a quick rideshare. Trains reach Palo Alto in about 7 minutes and Mountain View is in the same Caltrain fare zone as Palo Alto. From Palo Alto station, the free Marguerite shuttle runs to the Stanford campus on weekdays.

The station is also a stop on VTA light rail. Marriott lists the Mountain View Transit Center for buses and the Whisman light rail station as nearby. Our Caltrain guide explains fares, Clipper cards and which trains stop where.

Rooms

Marriott does not publish a room count. Its page lists rooms and suites, with rates that vary by room type and date. The one type it describes in detail is a room with two queen beds, a TV, a mini fridge and a microwave. A fridge and microwave in the room help on longer stays, since you can keep breakfast or leftovers on hand.

  • Check-in and checkout. Check-in is at 4 p.m. and checkout at 11 a.m., both a little less generous than many hotels.
  • Minimum age. Guests must be 21 to check in.
  • Wi-Fi. Free for Marriott Bonvoy members. Joining is free.
  • Accessibility. Ask the hotel directly about accessible rooms and bathroom features, since the overview page gives few details.

Breakfast, parking, EV charging and pets

  • Breakfast. A complimentary grab-and-go breakfast runs Monday to Sunday from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Marriott's page also describes a hot breakfast buffet, so the exact spread may vary.
  • Coffee. A 24-hour self-serve coffee station plus free coffee and tea in the lobby.
  • Market. The Market sells snacks and drinks.
  • Fitness. A 24-hour fitness center with cardio and strength equipment.
  • Parking. Free on-site self parking, which is rare this close to Palo Alto. See our free parking guide for more hotels that include it.
  • EV charging. Marriott lists an electric car charging station, subject to availability. It does not list a fee, so ask.
  • Pets. Not allowed.
  • Pool. None listed.

Policies at newly converted hotels can shift in the first year. Check the official Marriott page before you book.

Dining on site

Marriott's page refers to on-site restaurants, but what it describes is The Market and the breakfast service rather than a sit-down dining room. Plan to eat lunch and dinner out. The good news is that downtown Mountain View is close.

The fridge and microwave in the rooms make it easy to stock up for a longer stay. Grocery stores and pharmacies line El Camino Real in both directions, so a quick run for snacks, fruit or toiletries rarely takes more than a few minutes by car. If you arrive late at night, eat before you check in, since the lobby market is the only food on site after breakfast ends.

Food nearby

Castro Street is the easy answer. Its busiest blocks are near the train station, about a mile north of the hotel. These restaurants were confirmed open in our Mountain View food guide in late October 2026:

  • Scratch at 401 Castro Street, American food with a patio and a happy hour menu.
  • Amarin Thai Cuisine at 147 Castro Street, a long-running Thai restaurant.
  • Oren's Hummus at 126 Castro Street, hummus bowls and grilled plates.
  • Blue Line Pizza at 146 Castro Street, deep dish pizza.
  • Red Rock Coffee at 201 Castro Street, a coffeehouse with long hours.

Our Castro Street guide covers the street's history and layout. On Sunday mornings the Mountain View farmers market sets up at the Caltrain station lot. On November 8, November 29 and December 13, 2026 it moves to the nearby Hope Street lots.

Who it suits

  • Drivers on a budget who want free parking and breakfast included.
  • Visitors who like Castro Street and want restaurants within walking distance in the evening.
  • Business travelers heading to Mountain View or Sunnyvale campuses who earn Marriott Bonvoy points.
  • Caltrain riders who do not mind a mile walk or short ride to the station.

It is a poor fit for pet owners, travelers under 21, families who want a pool or anyone who wants a full restaurant and bar on site. For a pool and more facilities nearby, compare Aloft Mountain View or the hotels in our Menlo Park and Mountain View guide.

Booking tips

  1. Add up what is included. Free parking and breakfast can make this hotel cheaper overall than a pricier Palo Alto room.
  2. Plan for the late check-in. Rooms are ready at 4 p.m., so book lunch on Castro Street if you arrive early.
  3. Check the age rule. Every guest checking in must be 21 or older.
  4. Watch for Stanford weekends. Commencement and big campus weekends fill hotels all along El Camino Real.
  5. Compare nearby choices. You can compare Mountain View hotels on Expedia on the same dates.

Good to know

  • 64 West El Camino Real, Mountain View. About a mile from Caltrain and Castro Street.
  • Free self parking and free grab-and-go breakfast.
