Belmont is a residential city. Its restaurants reflect that. There is no Castro Street or Laurel Street here. Instead, places to eat are scattered along El Camino Real near the train station, up Ralston Avenue toward the hills and in the Carlmont Village Shopping Center on Alameda de las Pulgas. What Belmont lacks in density it makes up with a few long-running dining rooms that people drive in for, including a Spanish restaurant founded in 1984 and a French Continental room on a site that has served diners since the 1950s.

This guide lists places confirmed on their own websites or booking pages in late October 2026. Several older Belmont listings online could not be confirmed, so we left them out. Descriptions are factual: what each place serves, where it is and the hours it published. For parks, Ralston Hall and the centennial, see our Belmont town guide.

Where Belmont eats

El Camino Real carries most of the city's restaurants, including Iberia, the Iron Gate and Godfather's Burger Lounge. The Belmont Caltrain station sits beside El Camino near Ralston Avenue. Carlmont Village, a shopping center at Alameda de las Pulgas and Ralston in the hills, has a cluster of neighborhood spots. East of El Camino, Industrial Road runs beside the tracks and Highway 101 with warehouses and the city's brewery.

Pairing a meal with a Belmont outing

Most Palo Alto visitors come to Belmont for the outdoors or a school event rather than for food alone. Waterdog Lake Open Space in the western hills is a short drive from Carlmont Village, so Gin Mon and Truffle Poke Bar make a convenient stop after a walk. Twin Pines Park on Ralston Avenue, with the historical society museum and summer concerts, is a short drive from Vivace and the El Camino restaurants. Families attending events at Notre Dame de Namur University or Carlmont High School can choose from the same cluster. On weekend afternoons, the brewery taproom on Industrial Road opens at 1 p.m., which suits a stop after a morning hike. Our hiking guide lists longer trails nearby.

Planning your visit

  • Caltrain: The Belmont station is two fare zones from Palo Alto. Iberia, the Iron Gate and Mountain Mike's are on El Camino Real, a walk or short ride from the station depending on direction.
  • Driving: Most Belmont restaurants have parking lots, which is easier than the downtowns nearby.
  • Mondays: Iberia and the Iron Gate are closed on Mondays.
  • Walkable alternative: For a restaurant row, Laurel Street in San Carlos is a few minutes south and downtown San Mateo a few minutes north.
  • Stay over: Belmont has little lodging. You can compare hotels in San Mateo and Belmont for a weekend.
