Hospital days are long and rarely go to plan. A quick lunch turns into a four-hour wait, or a late-evening update arrives just as the cafeteria closes. This guide is for the people sitting with patients at Stanford Hospital and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. It lists the food inside the medical center as the hospitals publish it, then the places within a short walk and finally the late-night and delivery options.
Places outside the hospital link to our business directory, which records hours as each business published them in October 2026. Hours vary, especially on holidays. For parking, entrances and visitor rules, start with our guide to visiting Stanford Hospital. In a medical emergency, call 911.
Food inside the medical center
Stanford Hospital is two connected buildings on Pasteur Drive, the older 300P and the newer 500P. Lucile Packard Children's Hospital is next door at 725 Welch Road. The Stanford Medicine Children's Health food page lists these options, which are also summarized on our Market Square Cafeteria listing:
| Where | Building | Listed hours and notes |
|---|---|---|
| Market Square Cafeteria | 300P, first-floor hallway | Monday to Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; closed weekends and holidays |
| PERK Coffee Cart | 300P, behind Market Square | Listed Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. |
| Stanford Health Care Cafeteria | 500P, first floor | Take-out only; weekdays 6 a.m. to midnight, weekends 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. |
| Harvest Cafe | Lucile Packard, main building, first floor | Snacks and drinks around the clock; meal service at set times |
| Vending machines | Near the Pediatric Emergency Department and across from Harvest Cafe | Always available |
At Harvest Cafe, breakfast is listed from 7 to 10 a.m., lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and a late-night grill from 7 p.m. to midnight. The children's hospital also says each unit has family food bags and the Family Resource Center offers food bags plus coffee and tea. Ask a nurse or the unit desk if you need one.
On the university side of the medical school, The Med Café in the Li Ka Shing Center at 291 Campus Drive serves Starbucks drinks and a daily hot lunch on weekdays, according to our campus dining guide.
The Stanford Barn: a quarter mile away
The closest real restaurants sit in the brick Stanford Barn at 700 Welch Road, a walk of about five minutes from the children's hospital along Welch Road. It is a calm place to sit down for an hour.
- Tootsie's at the Stanford Barn: an Italian-style cafe for espresso, pastries, breakfast plates and panini, open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. as listed.
- Vina Enoteca: an Italian restaurant and wine bar with house-made pasta, serving dinner Tuesday to Saturday with reservations through Tock.

Stanford Shopping Center: about 0.6 mile
Stanford Shopping Center sits just north of the medical campus across Quarry Road. From the Pasteur Visitor Garage it is a walk of 10 to 15 minutes, or a short drive to one of the center's surface lots. It is open every day and has the widest choice near the hospitals. Our shopping center guide has a map of the layout.
Sit-down meals
- Hummus Mediterranean Kitchen: Mediterranean and Turkish plates, with a Turkish breakfast on weekend mornings.
- Taro San Japanese Noodle Bar: bowls of house-made udon, which make an easy warm meal on a cold day.
- Pacific Catch: a West Coast fish house for poke, grilled fish and rice bowls, with online booking.
- True Food Kitchen: a health-focused chain with seasonal plates and OpenTable booking.
Fast counters and take-out
- Tender Greens: plates, salads and sandwiches with gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and vegan tags on the menu.

- Chipotle: burritos and bowls facing El Camino Real, open until 10 p.m. daily as listed.

- Blue Bottle Coffee: the closest specialty coffee to the hospitals, opening at 6 a.m. every day.
The center has more choices than these, covered in our shopping center food guide. Most counters there follow mall hours or a little later, so the very late options are few.
Very early and very late
Families often need coffee before dawn or a hot meal after 10 p.m. These are the hours to know, as listed in our directory:
- Before 6 a.m. The 500P cafeteria opens at 6 a.m. Off campus, Peet's at Town & Country Village opens at 5 a.m. on weekdays and Philz Coffee near the Palo Alto Caltrain station opens at 4:30 a.m. on weekdays.
- After 10 p.m. Inside, the 500P cafeteria (until midnight on weekdays) and the Harvest Cafe grill (until midnight). Nearby, The Melt at the shopping center.
- Overnight. Jack in the Box at 2280 El Camino Real, about 2 miles south, lists its drive-thru and lobby as open 24 hours. Our late-night food guide has more.
Delivery to the hospital
Stanford Medicine Children's Health says food delivery to the hospital address is possible. The tricky part is the handoff. The medical center has many doors, drop-off loops and garages. Drivers often stop at the wrong one.
- Name a specific main entrance in the delivery note, not just the street address.
- Meet the driver outside. Delivery drivers usually cannot go up to patient floors.
- Keep your phone on and the ringer up. Hospital buildings can have weak signal in some corridors.
- Check that the restaurant delivers to the address before you order. Chains with late hours such as Domino's on Cambridge Avenue list delivery until midnight or later.
Many restaurants in our directory also take online orders for pickup, which can be quicker if one person is free to drive. Our takeout guide lists the ones that publish it.
Parking when you leave to eat
Self-parking for Stanford Hospital is at the Pasteur Visitor Garage, 200 Pasteur Drive, open 24 hours. Stanford Health Care lists the first two hours free, then hourly charges up to an $18 daily maximum, payable by card only. Lucile Packard Children's lists its own rates, with the first hour free. Driving out to eat and back can restart or extend charges, so on a long day it is often simpler to walk to the Barn or the shopping center.
The free Marguerite shuttle serves the medical area on weekdays. Our Stanford parking and transit guide explains the routes.
Good to know
- Market Square closes on weekends and holidays. Plan weekend meals around the 500P cafeteria, Harvest Cafe or the shopping center.
- Guest Services at 650-498-3333 is available around the clock and can tell you what is open inside right now.
- Pack a refillable water bottle, snacks and a phone charger for long waits.
- Hospital food hours change often. Treat the hours here as a guide and confirm on the day.
If the stay runs long
For stays of a week or more, eating out every meal wears thin. A kitchen helps. Some families book a furnished rental near the medical center so they can cook simple meals; you can search furnished rentals near Stanford by week or month. Grocery stores close to the hospital include Trader Joe's at Town & Country Village, about a mile away. Small comforts matter here: a real breakfast, a walk in the fresh air and a meal away from the ward.
