In a town where restaurant kitchens close by 9 p.m. and the pubs fill with students on weekends, hotel bars fill a gap. They are open every day, have seats when restaurants are booked and are built for conversation rather than noise. They are where Palo Alto meets visiting investors, interview candidates and wedding parties. A few of them are worth a trip even if you live five minutes away.
This guide covers hotel bars in Palo Alto first and then the closest ones in Menlo Park and Mountain View. Each was confirmed through the hotel's or the bar's own website in late October or early November 2026. Hours are as posted and can change for private events, which hotels book often. You must be 21 or older to order alcohol.

Downtown Palo Alto
Graduate by Hilton, 488 University Avenue
The Graduate opened in January 2023 in the former Hotel President building and has two bars. President's Terrace, on the roof, is what Hilton calls the city's only rooftop bar. It serves cocktails curated by Bad Birdy with California-inspired food and views west to the Santa Cruz Mountains. Tables are booked on OpenTable with a 90-minute limit. Downstairs, Lou and Herbert's is an all-day cafe and bar in a Spanish colonial room, pouring Saint Frank coffee by day and cocktails in the evening. The hotel says its kitchens close at 9:30 p.m. daily. Parking is valet only. Our rooftop bars guide has more on the terrace.
Nobu Hotel Palo Alto, 180 Hamilton Avenue
Nobu's Palo Alto hotel is a block from University Avenue and runs a restaurant with a bar and lounge plus a cafe in the lobby lounge. On weekends from noon to 3:30 p.m., the hotel hosts Tanoshi Hour in its outdoor Nobu Garden, a prix fixe for two that pairs nigiri or Nobu classics with a signature cocktail or a featured wine. The bar suits a polished drink before dinner downtown. Hours for the lounge were not posted on the pages we checked, so call ahead. See our Nobu Hotel Palo Alto guide.
South Palo Alto: Hotel Citrine
Hotel Citrine at 750 San Antonio Road is a Tribute Portfolio hotel near the Mountain View line. Its restaurant, Wild Onion Bistro & Bar, is a casual California eatery with organic and locally sourced food, local coffee and pressed juices alongside the bar. All-day dining runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The patio is dog friendly, which is rare for a hotel bar. Wild Onion validates up to three hours of complimentary valet parking. Jazz has turned up here on occasional evenings, but we found no regular schedule. Our Hotel Citrine guide covers the hotel.

Menlo Park: Madera Bar at Rosewood Sand Hill
Madera Bar is the bar of the Rosewood Sand Hill hotel at 2825 Sand Hill Road, about 4 miles from downtown Palo Alto and a short drive from Stanford. It serves seasonal craft cocktails and light fare with views across the terraces to the Santa Cruz Mountains. A fireplace warms cool evenings. Its posted hours are 2 to 11 p.m. daily, with no food after 11 p.m. Afternoon tea runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The hotel promotes Friday Nights at Madera Bar as a weekly event. Madera's wine program is a strength. The restaurant next door serves breakfast and dinner. Reservations for the bar go through OpenTable.
Because of its address among the venture capital firms of Sand Hill Road, Madera Bar is a well-known spot for a business drink. Our guides to Rosewood Sand Hill and client dinners have more.
Mountain View: The Ameswell and Shashi
Roger at The Ameswell, 800 Moffett Boulevard
Roger is the bar and restaurant of The Ameswell Hotel near Moffett Field and NASA Ames, about 7 miles from Palo Alto. Metro Silicon Valley's 2025 bar guide described an aeronautically themed cocktail menu. Happy hour runs daily from 3 to 4 p.m. with snacks, wine, beer, cocktails and mocktails. Salt-roasted fries are $9 on that menu. Dinner runs from 3 to 9 p.m. daily, the Wing Bar stays open until 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and weekend brunch runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Metro Silicon Valley's 2025 guide described a family-friendly game lawn with giant Jenga and bocce and an Airstream bar. Our Ameswell Hotel guide covers the hotel.
The Emerald Hour at Shashi Hotel, 1625 North Shoreline Boulevard
The Shashi Hotel near Google's campus and Shoreline Amphitheatre has a cocktail bar called The Emerald Hour, which uses seasonal ingredients and premium spirits. Its restaurant, Broma, serves food along with American and international wines and craft beer. It is handy before a Shoreline concert, though you will still need a ride to the venue. See our Shashi Hotel guide.
Farther afield: Santana Row
About 13 miles south in San Jose, Hotel Valencia on Santana Row has two bars. Vbar is the main bar downstairs. Cielo, on the roof, is a seasonal wine bar with fire pits that lists hours of 5:30 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, weather permitting. It turns into a holiday setting from November 27, 2026. It makes a good end to a shopping day, but plan a ride home since Santana Row is not on Caltrain.
Why hotel bars work in Palo Alto
- They open every day. Many Palo Alto bars close Sunday or Monday. Hotel bars rarely do.
- They are quiet enough to talk. That makes them the default for interviews, investor meetings and first dates.
- They have the ingredients. A hotel bartender can usually make a classic you do not see on the menu, or a zero-proof drink.
- They cost more. None of these bars posts full drink prices online. Expect hotel pricing and a service charge on some tabs.
Drinking responsibly and getting home
The Graduate and Nobu are within walking distance of the Palo Alto Caltrain station and of other downtown hotels. Hotel Citrine is about a mile from the San Antonio station. Rosewood Sand Hill, The Ameswell and Shashi are best reached by car, rideshare or robotaxi, so choose a sober driver or book a ride before you order. If you are staying elsewhere and drinking late, a room within walking distance is the simplest plan. Our downtown hotels guide lists the options.

- President's Terrace and Madera Bar take OpenTable reservations.
- Madera Bar's 11 p.m. close is one of the latest of any bar near Stanford.
- Bring ID. Hotels check it like any other bar.
