About the RH Rooftop Restaurant

The RH Rooftop Restaurant is the dining room at the top of RH Palo Alto, The Gallery at Stanford. RH, the home furnishings company, calls its large showrooms design galleries. This one stands at the edge of Stanford Shopping Center, near Sand Hill Road. RH announced its opening in a press release dated May 31, 2024.

The building is big. RH describes the gallery as a 60,000 square foot, three level indoor and outdoor space that blurs the line between home and retail and between indoors and outdoors. The restaurant takes up the third floor. The second level holds furniture collections, the RH Interior Design Studio and a rug showroom, so many people combine a meal with a browse through the gallery.

The room

The setting is the main draw. RH describes the restaurant as a year round, skylit garden with heritage olive trees, sparkling chandeliers and a cascading center fountain carved from solid Biancone limestone. The 2024 press release describes the room as glass encased and reached by a double floating staircase. It also says the space extends to a rooftop park with views of Kings Mountain.

The gallery's exterior is finished in cream Venetian plaster, with glass and steel French doors opening onto garden courtyards on the main level. The main hall has 13 foot ceilings and a large skylight. If you are interested in architecture or interior design, arrive early enough to walk through the building before or after your meal.

RH describes the menu as a reimagined menu of enduring classics, served with a selection of Champagnes and wines. The company does not post the full menu on its Palo Alto page. When the gallery opened, RH highlighted dishes such as a whole grilled branzino, a grilled vegetable and shrimp salad and a fried chicken sandwich. Menus change, so ask for the current list when you call.

Next to the restaurant, a wine bar pours Champagnes and wines, including limited production bottles from small Napa Valley vintners. The shopping center's listing describes a wine and barista bar, so this is also a place for a coffee or a glass of wine without a full meal. Both open onto the landscaped rooftop park.

Planning a visit

A meal here is easy to fold into a longer afternoon. A simple plan looks like this:

  1. Park at Stanford Shopping Center and enter the gallery from the London Plane Way side, near Sand Hill Road.
  2. Walk the main hall and the second level, where RH shows furniture collections, its rug showroom and the interior design studio.
  3. Take the staircase up to the third floor for lunch, or stop at the wine and barista bar for something lighter.
  4. Step out to the rooftop park before you leave.

The restaurant sits on the third floor, so allow a few extra minutes to walk through the gallery to reach it. If you only want a meal, call ahead at 650-328-4004 to check the day's hours.

Who it suits

The restaurant suits a celebratory lunch, a weekend meal during a shopping day or a visit with out of town guests who would enjoy the setting. It is a natural stop for anyone already shopping at the center. Call to confirm the restaurant's current hours and whether it takes reservations, since its web page lists neither.
