About Midtown Hair Studio

Midtown Hair Studio is a neighborhood hair salon at 2786 Middlefield Road in Midtown. It handles cuts and color for women and men, perms, smoothing treatments, waxing and makeup. It also has a short menu of services for young children. The business runs a second salon in Los Altos, at 4500 West El Camino Real, which is the place to go for nail services.

The salon is owned by Zim, who grew up in Vietnam and has more than 20 years in the hair business, according to the website. In its own words, the salon's mission is to build long-term relationships with clients. It stresses the client experience and customer service in a relaxing setting. It also says it aims to help each client plan a look and keep their hair healthy, with color that ranges from natural shades to pastel hues.

The team

The meet the team page introduces the stylists by first name. Peter has been with the salon since the beginning and has more than 10 years of experience. Sandy has more than 20 years and Kim more than 15. The page also lists Anh, Dana, Cathy, Michelle, Tony and Susan. Tony is noted for both women's and men's cuts. If you want to see the same person each time, ask for that stylist by name when you book.

Booking, hours and policies

The website has separate Book Palo Alto and Book Los Altos buttons, so pick the right location before you choose a time. Online booking for Palo Alto runs through the salon's booking widget. You can also call 650-462-9856. The site has an online shop for hair care products as well.

The website did not show a full weekly schedule when we checked. It listed the salon as open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day, so call to confirm hours for other days, especially weekends. The salon says it is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and July 4.

The cancellation policy asks for at least 24 hours notice. Late cancellations on higher-priced services may be charged half the cost of the service, so cancel early if your plans change.

Who the salon suits

The menu is broad enough to cover a whole household. Adults can book cuts, color, perms or smoothing. Young children under 10 can get a haircut or braids. Parents can book waxing or a conditioning treatment on the same trip. Clients who split their time between Palo Alto and Los Altos can use either salon and book each one online.

The salon puts weight on long-term relationships, so it suits people who want a regular stylist who knows their hair. Several stylists list 10 to 20 years or more of experience. If you are planning a big color change, ask for a consultation first. The salon says it helps clients plan a look and keep their hair healthy over time, from natural shades to pastel hues.
