About Forest Spa Boutique
Forest Spa Boutique is a small day spa at 530 Ramona Street in downtown Palo Alto, between University and Hamilton avenues. It calls itself an intimate spa boutique and puts skin rejuvenation and relaxation at the top of its menu. The spa carries the full SkinCeuticals skincare line and uses a SkinCeuticals Skinscope LED device during consultations to look at visible skin concerns. A tester table lets clients try products before buying.
The owner is Bianca de Jong, a European trained esthetician and massage therapist. According to the spa's team page, she has worked in the spa industry since 1995 and ran a spa boutique in the Netherlands for more than ten years before moving to the United States in 2006. She leads the spa's in-house training for every technician. The team page notes that she now accepts only new advanced facial therapy clients because of demand, so most first-time visitors will see another member of the team.
Services
The spa groups its menu into face, body and waxing:
- Facials: SkinCeuticals facials and holistic facials organized by concern, including anti-aging, oily skin and acne, sensitive skin and rosacea, short peeling facials and a menopause facial. Enhancers can be added to a facial.
- Lashes and brows: lash lifts (including a newer Korean lash lift) and brow lamination.
- Massage: a range of treatments using essential oils in organic massage oil. The menu includes a Thai herbal poultice massage, an athlete package that combines hot stones, bamboo and cupping and a bamboo massage.
- Body treatments and waxing: body facials plus waxing for women and men, including Brazilian waxing. The spa says it uses a gentle Italian wax and can sell a series of five sessions at a discount for popular services.
Seasonal specials appear on the home page. The spa also sells gift cards and skincare products online. Prices are posted on each service page and change from time to time.
Who it suits
Forest Spa Boutique suits people who want results-focused skincare in a quiet, small setting rather than a large resort spa. The facial menu is organized by skin concern, so it works well if you have a specific goal such as calming redness, managing breakouts or addressing changes in skin during menopause. Regular waxing clients can save with the series option. The massage menu leans toward longer, therapeutic treatments, which makes it a reasonable choice for runners and cyclists coming off a big week. Because the spa is in a downtown storefront with weekday evening hours until 7 p.m., it also works for people who work nearby and want an appointment after the office.
Booking and policies
Appointments can be made through the spa's online booking system, by phone or text at 408-759-0576 or by email. With the online system, you choose the service, provider and time. The front desk then reviews the request and will contact you if it cannot be met. A credit card holds the booking. The spa asks clients to arrive ten minutes early and lists a detailed cancellation and returns policy on its appointments page. It accepts cash, checks and major cards.
The spa describes a strict cleaning routine. Treatment rooms, the lobby and the restroom are cleaned and disinfected between clients. A separate page explains its sanitation protocols in full.
Tips for visiting
- Read the prep notes before waxing. The spa advises pausing products with vitamin C, glycolic acid or salicylic acid for four days beforehand and skipping ibuprofen before a wax. It will not wax clients using prescription drugs such as Accutane or Retin-A.
- Park in a city garage. The spa recommends the public garage across Ramona Street, the lot behind the building toward Emerson Street and the garage under the police station on Bryant Street. Our parking guide explains downtown time limits.
- Make a morning of it. Ramona Street is part of a historic block of Spanish Colonial Revival buildings. The shops in our University Avenue shopping guide are around the corner.
