On this page
Kasa Niche Hotel is a tech-run hotel in downtown Redwood City. There is no front desk and no lobby staff. You check in online, get door codes by message and reach Kasa's guest team around the clock by text, chat or phone. The rooms are compact, described by Kasa as micro units. The payoff is location. Caltrain, Courthouse Square, the Fox Theatre and dozens of restaurants are a few minutes away on foot. Palo Alto is two Caltrain stops south on most local trains.
This profile is based on Kasa's official page for the property, checked November 1, 2026. We do not publish prices, star ratings or reviews. For live rates, check Kasa Niche on Booking.com or book with Kasa directly.
Location
The address is 868 Main Street, Redwood City, CA 94063. Main Street runs through the older part of downtown, a few blocks from Broadway and Courthouse Square, the town's central plaza. Our downtown Redwood City guide covers the square, the history museum and the theaters.
Distances in a straight line from the hotel:
| Place | Distance |
|---|---|
| Redwood City Caltrain station | About 0.3 mile |
| Fox Theatre, 2221 Broadway | A few blocks |
| Downtown Palo Alto | About 4.5 miles |

Stanford's Redwood City campus, on Broadway east of downtown, is a short drive away. Our page on Stanford Redwood City explains what is there.
Getting there by train
This is one of the easiest hotels on the Peninsula to reach without a car. Redwood City station is an express stop, so most trains stop there, including the fast ones to San Francisco and San Jose. Palo Alto is two stops south on most local trains and the trip costs a two-zone fare.
- From SFO: take BART to Millbrae and a southbound Caltrain to Redwood City, then walk. SFO is the closer airport. Our SFO guide has the details.
- From SJC: take the free VTA Route 60 to Santa Clara Transit Center and Caltrain north to Redwood City. See our SJC guide.
Drivers should note that the hotel has no parking of its own. More on that below.
Rooms
Kasa does not publish a room count. Its booking page lists these room types, each for up to two guests with a private bathroom:
- Full Room, Micro. The smallest option, with a full bed.
- Full Room.
- Queen Room.
- King Room.
- King Suite.
- Accessible Queen Room.
Groups can book two or three rooms together in one reservation. Kasa describes the rooms as tech-enabled. Look at the photos for each type on the booking page before you choose, since a micro room is small even by hotel standards. Kasa also rents furnished apartments on longer leases in some markets, so ask about weekly or monthly options if your stay runs long. Our long stays guide covers other choices.
How a Kasa stay works
- Book and check in online. Kasa asks you to complete online check-in before you arrive.
- Get your codes. Instructions arrive shortly before check-in time. A callbox code opens the building and a door code opens your room.
- Arrive after 4 p.m. Early check-in can be requested during online check-in, subject to availability.
- Ask for help any time. Guest services answers by chat, WhatsApp, text, phone or email, 24/7.
- Leave before 11 a.m. Late checkout can be requested through Kasa's Virtual Front Desk.
After booking, you choose a damage coverage option: a small nonrefundable fee, or a $250 refundable hold that is released if the room is left undamaged.
Amenities and policies
- Luggage storage. On site. Where to find it is in the check-in instructions.
- Laundry. A community laundry room.
- Community room. A shared space for guests.
- Pets. Allowed. Kasa says its spaces are designed to accommodate animal companions and links to breed restrictions and rules.
- Accessibility. A step-free entrance and accessible queen rooms, but no elevator. Upper floors are reached by stairs only.
- Parking. None run by Kasa. It publishes a list of nearby public parking options it does not manage.
Kasa's page lists no breakfast, restaurant, pool, gym or EV charging. Plan meals around the many restaurants within a few blocks. Kasa's page does not describe housekeeping, so ask how cleaning and fresh towels work if you are staying more than a night or two.
Food nearby
Downtown Redwood City has a large restaurant scene, much of it within a 10-minute walk of Main Street. The 2000 block of Broadway is permanently car-free, with outdoor tables. The Fox Theatre and the Cinemark downtown cinema keep the area busy at night. Our Redwood City food guide sorts restaurants by type. For an evening show, see our Fox Theatre page.
What to do nearby
A stay here works well for a mix of Redwood City evenings and Palo Alto days. Close to the hotel:
- Courthouse Square. The plaza in front of the domed 1910 courthouse hosts summer concerts and movie nights. The San Mateo County History Museum inside the old courthouse is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., per its operator.
- The Fox Theatre. A historic theater on Broadway that hosts live shows. Check its calendar for your dates.
- Edgewood Park. A county park in the hills west of town, known for spring wildflowers, about a 10-minute drive. See our Edgewood Park guide.
For a Palo Alto day, ride Caltrain two stops south to Palo Alto station. University Avenue starts at the platform. On weekdays, the free Marguerite shuttle runs from the station to the Stanford campus. On weekends, walking up Palm Drive to the Main Quad takes about 25 minutes. Coming back, check the last train before you settle in for dinner, because evening service is thinner than at rush hour.

It is a poor fit for drivers who want on-site parking, travelers who want staff on hand or anyone who cannot manage stairs and does not land a ground floor room. For more low-cost options, see our budget stays guide.
