Courtyard Redwood City is a modern five-story Marriott hotel just off Highway 101 on Bair Island Road. It opened in March 2017 with 177 rooms. It has the usual Courtyard setup: a lobby with The Bistro for breakfast and evening drinks, a 24-hour fitness center and a heated outdoor pool. Its location suits drivers. Highway 101 is at the door, downtown Redwood City is across the freeway and Palo Alto is about 5 miles south. It also takes pets, which many hotels nearby do not.

This profile is based on Marriott's official page for the hotel, checked November 1, 2026, with opening details from the 2017 announcement. We do not publish prices, star ratings or reviews. For live rates, check Courtyard Redwood City on Booking.com or book through Marriott, where Marriott Bonvoy members earn points.

Getting there

By car, the hotel is easy to reach. It sits just off Highway 101 on the east side, so there is no crawl through downtown streets. From Palo Alto, the drive takes about 10 to 15 minutes outside rush hour.

By train, Redwood City station is an express Caltrain stop. The hotel is under a mile away in a straight line, but the walk crosses Highway 101, so most guests take a short rideshare. Palo Alto is two stops south on most local trains, a two-zone fare.

  • From SFO: about 14 miles, per Marriott. It is the closer airport. See our SFO guide.
  • From SJC: about 22 miles, per Marriott.

Marriott says neither airport has a hotel shuttle.

Rooms

Marriott lists 177 rooms and suites. The hotel opened with Courtyard's then-new room design. Room sizes and bed types are listed on the booking page, so compare kings, two-queen rooms and suites for your dates. Wi-Fi is complimentary. If you need an accessible room, call the hotel to confirm the specific features. Marriott's overview does not mention in-room kitchens, which are standard at its Residence Inn hotels rather than at Courtyard. For a longer stay with a kitchen, our long stays guide lists extended-stay options.

  • Pool. A heated outdoor pool. Marriott does not post hours.
  • Fitness center. Complimentary and open 24 hours.
  • EV charging. An electric car charging station, subject to availability.

Nearby

Bair Island, part of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, lies just east of the hotel area. The restored marsh is a good place for a walk and for birding. Our Don Edwards refuge guide covers the trails and rules. Downtown Redwood City's Fox Theatre and Courthouse Square are a short drive away for an evening out.

Visiting Palo Alto and Stanford from here

For a trip split between Redwood City and Palo Alto, this hotel works best with a car. Highway 101 south to University Avenue or Embarcadero Road reaches downtown Palo Alto in about 15 minutes outside rush hour. Stanford's campus and the medical center are a little farther, via University Avenue or Sand Hill Road. Downtown Palo Alto parking is in city garages and lots; our Palo Alto parking guide explains time limits and permits.

Without a car, take a rideshare to Redwood City station, then Caltrain two stops south to Palo Alto. On weekdays the free Marguerite shuttle links Palo Alto station with the campus. Expect the whole trip to take 30 to 40 minutes. Morning traffic on Highway 101 southbound can be heavy, so allow extra time for early appointments at Stanford Hospital.

Who Courtyard Redwood City suits

  • Drivers who want quick access to Highway 101 in both directions.
  • Marriott Bonvoy members who want points between Palo Alto and SFO.
  • Pet owners, since the hotel charges one fee per stay rather than per night.
  • Families who want a pool.
  • Business travelers visiting Redwood City and Redwood Shores offices.

It is less suited to visitors without a car who want to walk to restaurants or Caltrain. Hotels in downtown Redwood City or near Palo Alto station are better for that. For a look at the wider city, see our Redwood City guide.

Booking tips

  1. Add parking to the rate. At $24 a day plus tax, it adds up on a long stay.
  2. Budget for breakfast. It is sold at The Bistro, not included.
  3. Bring the pet fee into the math. $150 per stay is cheap for a week and steep for one night.
  4. Compare Redwood City. Compare Redwood City hotels on Expedia to see options downtown too.
