Paint and sip is a guided painting class with a drink in hand. An artist at the front of the room paints a picture one step at a time and everyone copies along on their own canvas. Two hours later you leave with a painting that is still wet, a little lopsided and worth a story. It is a popular birthday, bachelorette and team-building plan. It also makes a relaxed date night for people who do not want to sit across a table all evening.
Palo Alto does not have a paint and sip studio we could confirm in 2026. The closest is in Los Altos. Pop-up paint nights run at taprooms and restaurants up the Peninsula. We checked each studio's own calendar in late October and early November 2026. Each listed November 2026 classes with prices. Class themes and prices change monthly, so book from the venue's current calendar.

The closest studio is Wine & Design at 630 Fremont Avenue in Los Altos, part of a national paint and sip franchise. Its November 2026 calendar mixed classic paint nights with craft workshops: stained glass, resin serving boards, chunky knit blankets and Japanese kinusaiga fabric art. The studio sells wine, beer, appetizers and other drinks, according to a March 2026 roundup of local paint nights in the Mountain View Voice. How a paint and sip class works
- Pick a painting. Each class is built around one featured image, shown on the calendar.
- Arrive early. Grab a drink, an apron and a seat. Your canvas, brushes and paint are set out.
- Follow along. The instructor paints the background first, then the main shapes, then details. You copy each step.
- Make it yours. Change the colors, add a moon or paint your dog in. Nobody minds.
- Take it home. Acrylic paint dries quickly but may still be tacky. Carry the canvas flat.
Tips for first-timers
- Wear clothes you do not love. Aprons help, but acrylic paint is permanent on fabric once dry.
- Choose a simple painting. Silhouettes, sunsets and trees are easier than faces and animals.
- Do not overwork it. Most first canvases suffer from too many layers, not too few.
- Eat first. Most studios sell snacks, not dinner.
- Book together. Buy tickets in one order so your group sits together.

How much does a paint and sip class cost near Palo Alto?
Most classes cost $39 to $55 per person. In November 2026 Wine & Design Los Altos listed a two-hour paint night at $55, Pinot's Palette San Bruno listed classes from $39 to $49 and Painting & Vino listed pop-ups from $25 to $50. Drinks are usually extra.
Do you have to be 21 for paint and sip?
Often, yes. Wine & Design's evening paint nights in Los Altos are listed for ages 21 and up. Pinot's Palette San Bruno says its public in-studio events are 21 plus. Create Mix & Mingle in San Mateo welcomes all ages. Wine & Design also runs separate family and kids workshops.
Do I need to know how to paint?
No. An instructor walks the class through a featured painting step by step, so beginners finish with a complete canvas. The point is to have fun with friends, not to produce a masterpiece.
Can I bring my own wine to paint and sip?
Policies differ. Wine & Design and Pinot's Palette sell wine, beer and other drinks at the studio. Painting & Vino events are held at venues that sell their own food and drinks. Ask the venue before you bring a bottle.
