About Wildseed
Wildseed is a 100 percent plant-based restaurant and bar at Town & Country Village, the open-air center at 855 El Camino Real. It has a sister restaurant in San Francisco. Both are open all day and serve seasonal California food with global flavors and techniques, with no meat, dairy or eggs anywhere on the menu.
The restaurant's owner is Adriano Paganini. Its about page also names Deborah Blum as operating partner and Alexandra Rothwell Kelly, a registered dietitian, as part of the team. The house motto sums up the pitch: good for you, good for the planet, good for the soul. The menu, it says, aims to deliver the ingredients you need and none you do not.
Sourcing is part of the story. Wildseed says it works only with Northern California produce and uses organic produce for the crops that have the highest pesticide levels on the Environmental Working Group's list.
What is on the menu
The menu reads like a modern American restaurant, with plant-based versions of familiar dishes. Recent dishes include:
- Snacks and starters: Athenian eggplant and crispy mushroom bao.
- Salads: a kale Caesar in small and large sizes.
- Plates: the green forest pizza, a neatball masala and a veggie burger.
- Lunch: a plant-based chicken sandwich among the midday choices.
- Dessert: a warm chocolate cake and a cast iron chocolate chip cookie.
Lunch runs Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. A mid-day menu fills the gap from 3 to 5 p.m. Menus change with the seasons, so check the website for the current list.
Brunch and the bar
Weekend brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sweet choices include chia pudding, banana fritters and French toast. Savory dishes include a carrot lox tartine, chilaquiles, the Wildseed scramble, a spicy sausage omelet and a carbonara pizza.
The bar program follows the same rules as the kitchen. Wildseed calls it Drink the Rainbow: seasonal cocktails made with local spirits, fresh juices, herbs and house-made extracts, tinctures and shrubs. House cocktails include the Vine Society Spritz, the Wildseed G&T and the Old Golden. The wine list is local, vegan, organic and biodynamic. The beer is local. Happy hour runs Monday to Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the bar.
Gluten and other dietary notes
Everything is vegan, so the main question for most diners is gluten. The menu marks dishes that contain gluten with (cg). Gluten-free crust is available on some pizzas for an extra charge. The cast iron chocolate chip cookie is gluten-free. Cauliflower rice can replace grains in dishes such as the neatball masala. The menu notes a 4 percent surcharge on all orders to support employee benefits and a $3 per person fee if you bring your own dessert.
Reservations, groups and catering
Book through OpenTable or the reservation form on the website. Wildseed Palo Alto can host parties of 2 to 22. Groups of up to 18 sit in the main dining room. Larger groups use the private dining room. The events team takes calls at 415-329-4444. There are also separate online booking pages by party size. Pickup, delivery and catering orders go through Toast. Gift cards are sold online.
Who it suits
Wildseed suits vegans and vegetarians who want a full menu with no need to ask questions. It also works for mixed groups where only some diners eat plant-based. The all-day hours make it flexible: a weekday lunch, a happy hour drink, a weekend brunch or a full dinner. A full bar and a private dining room make it a practical choice for birthday dinners and team outings.
