About The Cobblery
The Cobblery is a family-owned shoe store and repair shop at 410 California Avenue in the California Avenue district. The shop says it has served the Bay Area since 1940 and is now run by its fourth generation. The current owners are two sisters, Jessica and Stephanee, with their husbands, Richard and Stephen. The sisters grew up in the store. Stephen joined the business in 1996 and Richard in 2000.
It is two businesses under one roof: a full-service shoe and leather repair shop at the back and a retail store at the front. The shop says it sources materials from four distribution centers in the United States and that several luxury boutiques send their customers to it for repairs. You can drop work off in the store or send shoes in and have them shipped back by UPS.
The shop keeps short days on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Veterans Day, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. It closes on New Year's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Boxing Day. The Sunday farmers market is on the same street. Pure Barre and California Paint Company are a short walk along the avenue.
Repairs and retail

The retail side leans toward bright fabrics and patterns alongside basic black and brown. Stock changes with the seasons: slippers and boots in winter, sandals and a wall of flip-flops in spring and summer. A large wall of socks comes in cotton, wool, cashmere and angora, along with tights, leggings and knee highs. Gift wrapping is free with any purchase.
