About Drybar Palo Alto
Drybar is a chain of blow dry bars. Its Palo Alto shop is inside Stanford Shopping Center at 180 El Camino Real, Suite 385-A. The company's slogan sums up the format: no cuts, no color, just blowouts. You come in for a wash and style or a style on dry hair. You leave with the look you picked from a menu. Drybar lists the shop with a local phone number and notes that it offers Locks and Mane extensions.
The brand is run as a franchise. Drybar's website says each shop is independently owned and operated by DB Franchise, LLC, which uses the Drybar trademark under license from Helen of Troy. Services and booking work the same way across shops, but prices and hours vary by location.
Services
Drybar names its styles after cocktails, such as the Manhattan, the Mai Tai and the Cosmo. The service menu follows the same theme. The main services listed on its website are:
- The Blowout: the full experience of a wash, dry and style, up to about 45 minutes. You choose the style, from straight to waves to curls.
- Extended Time Blowout: the same service with up to 90 minutes, for long or thick hair or for extensions.
- Dry Styling: a 30-minute service for clean, dry hair, adding waves, curls or braids, or straightening.
- The Up-tini: an updo for special events, about 75 minutes. Drybar suggests coming in with second-day hair.
- The Shirley Temple: a blowout for children aged 3 to 7.
- Braids and add-ons: braids from fishtail to lattice, plus treatments such as hair masks, brightening and scalp scrubs.
The style lookbook on the website shows each named look with a photo. Bringing a reference picture of your own also works, especially for an updo. Add-ons can be stacked on a blowout, so you can pair a scalp scrub or a hair mask with your style in the same visit. Ask the stylist which add-ons suit your hair type.
Extensions
The Palo Alto shop is listed as offering Locks and Mane extensions. These are clip-in extensions that Drybar sells for same-day purchase and installation in its shops. The service menu notes an extra charge for blowouts on hair with extensions, so mention them when you book.
How to book
Drybar takes bookings online and through its booking app. The locator page links each shop to its booking flow. The shop phone line is the place for questions, such as a service longer than 90 minutes or a group booking before a wedding. Drybar also sells gift cards and a Barfly Membership, a monthly plan for regular blowouts. It runs events too, so a party booking is possible.
Hours are not shown on the brand's locator page. Check the booking app for open times before you go, since hours at mall shops often follow the shopping center and change around holidays.
Who it suits
A blowout bar suits anyone who wants polished hair for a specific day without a full salon visit: a job interview, a photo, a wedding, a graduation or a dinner out. Commencement weekend at Stanford and the holiday party season are natural times for it. The children's service makes it an option for a family event too. If you need a cut, color or chemical treatment, you will need a full-service salon instead, since Drybar does not offer them. Our beauty and wellness listings include salons around Palo Alto.
The dry styling service is the quick option. At 30 minutes, it fits into a lunch break for people who work nearby, provided the hair is already clean and dry.
Tips
Book ahead, especially for weekends and before holidays. Arrive a few minutes early so your appointment starts on time. For dry styling, come with clean, dry hair, as Drybar asks. Parking at Stanford Shopping Center is in large lots around the stores, so a blowout fits easily around other shopping. Without a car, Stanford's free Marguerite shuttle runs on weekdays between the Palo Alto transit center and the medical area beside the mall.
For more on the center, see our Stanford Shopping Center guide and the center's directory listing. Other beauty shops in the center include Aesop and Bluemercury.
