Milpitas sits at the very bottom of the bay where Santa Clara County meets Alameda County. Most Palo Alto residents know it for the Great Mall. Fewer know that it is one of the best places in the South Bay to eat well for little money. Restaurants cluster in shopping centers anchored by Asian supermarkets, so a single parking lot can hold Cantonese dim sum, Taiwanese hot pot and a yakitori counter. Indian street food and a decades-old Greek diner fill out the mix.
This guide names only places we confirmed on their own websites or chain location pages in early November 2026. Many Milpitas favorites post hours only on delivery apps, which we do not count, so this is a starting point rather than a full list. Price notes are our rough read of posted menus. For the Great Mall, the transit hub and Ed R. Levin park, see our Milpitas town guide.

Japanese and Taiwanese
Ushiya Grill
Ushiya Grill at 1792 North Milpitas Boulevard is a Japanese yakiniku restaurant, where diners grill beef at the table. Its name joins ushi, the Japanese word for beef, with ya, a shop or house, so it reads as "the beef house." The site lists lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Friday dinner starts at 4:30 p.m. and runs to 10:30 p.m. Weekends run straight through from 11:30 a.m. This is a splurge by Milpitas standards.
Sumiya Bento
Sumiya Bento at 530 Barber Lane opened on March 17, 2022. It serves a signature yakitori bento with grilled skewers over rice, plus small sides. Its site lists lunch from 11:30 a.m. and dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. every day, with online ordering through ChowNow. It is a quick, cheap lunch. Our Japanese food guide has more.
Taiwan Cafe and Tasty Pot

It now ships some dishes to all 50 states. Tasty Pot, the Taiwanese individual hot pot chain, takes online orders for its Milpitas branch. See our Taiwanese food guide.
