On this page
Shoreline Amphitheatre is where the big tours stop in the South Bay. It holds about 22,500 people, with roughly 6,500 reserved seats under its tent-like canopy and room for about 16,000 on the lawn. It sits on Mountain View's bayfront next to Shoreline Park and Google's campus. That setting is beautiful at sunset and nearly empty of restaurants after dark.
This guide explains what you can bring in, how food works inside and where to eat dinner first. We name only places we confirmed on their own websites or booking pages in late October 2026. For seating, parking and getting home after the show, see our Shoreline Amphitheatre guide.
The food rules
Shoreline's rules, as listed on Ticketmaster's venue page, are more generous than many big venues. They can change for each event, so check your show's page and call the Shoreline business office at 650-967-3000 on the day if you are unsure.
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Food | Allowed if it fits in one clear plastic bag no larger than 1 gallon, one bag per guest |
| Drinks | One factory-sealed plastic bottle, 20 oz or smaller, non-alcoholic and not frozen |
| Water | Factory-sealed water bottles are listed as permitted |
| Tailgating | Not permitted, nor alcohol or barbecues in the parking lots |
| Payment inside | Cashless |
The no-tailgating rule surprises people who know college football lots. The venue says it and the Mountain View Police Department enforce it strictly. Eat before you park, or carry your food in under the clear bag rule.
Food inside the venue
Food and drinks are sold inside the amphitheater. Live Nation also sells premium upgrades such as club access. Everything is cashless. Expect lines at the busiest moments of a sold-out show, so eat early or bring your own clear bag of food for the lawn.
The lawn is where a picnic makes the most sense. Spread a blanket, unpack the clear bag and watch the sun go down behind the hills before the show starts.

Close by, before the gates open
A few places within about a mile of the amphitheater serve food, but most close in the late afternoon. They work best if you arrive early to beat the traffic.
- Cafe @ Mountain View at the Google Visitor Experience, 2000 N. Shoreline Blvd., about half a mile south. Google lists the cafe as open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Its usual free parking in Amphitheatre Lot C closes on concert days.
- Michaels Bar & Grill at Shoreline Golf Links, 2940 N. Shoreline Blvd. The golf course's restaurant page lists hours until 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 6 p.m. Friday to Sunday, with a bar happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m. on weekends. It may close for private events.
- The Shoreline Lake boathouse. The lakeside bistro is closed for remodeling, but the boathouse says its espresso bar, snacks and patio seating stay open. A walk around the lake fills the time before the gates open. Our Shoreline Park guide covers the trails.
Dinner nearby: Cucina Venti
Cucina Venti is an Italian restaurant at 1390 Pear Avenue, across the street from the Computer History Museum and a short drive south of the amphitheater. It was taking OpenTable reservations in late October 2026, with listed hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and 4 to 10 p.m. on Saturday. No Sunday hours were listed. Book ahead on show nights.
Note its age rule: the restaurant's website says indoor dining is adults only, while outdoor tables are open to children 12 and older. Our Computer History Museum food guide covers this corner of North Bayshore in more detail.
Castro Street: the classic pre-show dinner
Most concertgoers eat in downtown Mountain View, about 2 miles south of the venue by road. Castro Street's car-free blocks near the train station are lined with restaurants. Places we confirmed on their own websites in late October 2026 include:
- Oren's Hummus, 126 Castro: Israeli-style hummus and grilled plates, listed until 9:30 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
- Blue Line Pizza, 146 Castro: Chicago-style deep dish, which takes time to bake. Order soon after you sit down.
- Amarin Thai Cuisine, 147 Castro: lunch and dinner every day.
- Scratch, 401 Castro: American food with a patio and happy hour, taking reservations online.
- Red Rock Coffee at 201 Castro and Dana Street Roasting Company at 744 W. Dana St.: coffee before the drive.
Our Mountain View food guide describes each one. Leave at least an hour from your table to your seat on a busy night, since Shoreline Boulevard backs up well before showtime.
A hotel restaurant option
The Ameswell Hotel at 800 Moffett Boulevard, beside NASA Ames, has ROGER Bar & Restaurant, which serves California food for dinner every night. It is a few miles from the venue by road and a good choice if you are staying the night. Our Ameswell Hotel guide has the details.
Packing a lawn picnic
A clear-bag picnic is the cheapest way to eat at Shoreline and the lawn is made for it. Build it before you leave home or pick it up on the way, since there are no grocery stores in North Bayshore. A few tips:
- Use the right bag. One clear plastic bag of up to 1 gallon per guest. Bring one for each person in your group if you want more food.
- Pick food that travels. Sandwiches, wraps, cut fruit and snacks hold up through a long evening. Skip anything that needs a cooler.
- Plan your drink. One factory-sealed plastic bottle of 20 ounces or less per person, not frozen.
- Bring a layer. The bayfront cools off quickly after sunset, even in summer.
After the show
When the encore ends, tens of thousands of people leave at once onto Shoreline Boulevard and Amphitheatre Parkway. Nearby kitchens will be closed by then. Many people linger in the lot for a while or use the rideshare zones. If you are hungry, pack a snack in the car for the wait and plan a late bite closer to home. Our guide to robotaxis and rideshare explains pickup options.
A concert night plan
- Mid-afternoon. Coffee and a walk at Shoreline Lake, or lunch at the Google cafe before it closes at 6 p.m.
- Early evening. Dinner on Castro Street or at Cucina Venti. Keep it to about an hour.
- Gates. Arrive with a clear bag of snacks for the lawn and one sealed drink.
- Inside. Buy food early, before the headliner takes the stage.
Good to know

- Food is allowed in one clear plastic bag up to 1 gallon per guest; drinks are limited to one sealed bottle of 20 oz or less.
