A cookie is the easiest sweet to get right and the easiest to get wrong. Palo Alto has one shop that bakes nothing else, a 1923 diner that sells giant cookies at the bakery counter, a French bakery with shortbread and oatmeal cookies, two cupcake shops and a gelato chain that puts a scoop on top. For a late craving, a weekly-rotating cookie chain is a short drive away in Mountain View.
This guide covers what each place bakes, what it costs and when it is open. Every shop was confirmed on its own website, ordering page or our verified business directory in late October and early November 2026. Prices are those posted then.

Pick a cookie by style
- Crisp edge, chewy middle. Antoine's bakes for this texture on purpose. Go when a fresh tray comes out.
- Big and soft. The Creamery's giant cookies are the classic American diner style, sized to share.
- Oversized and frosted. Crumbl's weekly cookies are thick, often topped and served chilled or warm depending on the flavor.
- Buttery French. Palmiers and shortbread at La Baguette and Mademoiselle Colette are crisp and less sweet.
- Japanese-style. Sesame and matcha flavors at Yutori are lighter and nutty.
- Party-ready. Kara's chocolate chip cookie cake feeds a group and carries a message on top.
Antoine's Cookie Shop: the cookie specialist
Antoine's Cookie Shop is in Building 1, Suite 15 at Town & Country Village. It started with founder Antoine Tang wanting a warm cookie late one night in 2013, baking for a church group and then selling online before opening a shop in San Mateo in 2016. The Palo Alto shop opened on January 15, 2021. Antoine's now also has shops in Los Gatos and San Francisco.
The shop mixes its dough in house and sells about ten varieties, baked to be crisp outside and chewy inside. It names butter, real vanilla, organic flour and Guittard chocolate among its ingredients. Chocolate chip is the original recipe. Past lineups have included oatmeal chip, walnut chip, peanut butter cup, toffee with dark chocolate, white chocolate macadamia, snickerdoodle and cookies and cream. Flavors rotate, so check the website for the day's list.
Hours run 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The website takes pickup orders and catering orders. Town & Country's listing also mentions curbside pickup.
Palo Alto Creamery: diner giants
The Palo Alto Creamery on Emerson Street bakes everything on site. Its bakery counter lists giant cookies at $4.25 in chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, sugar, ginger and peanut butter. The same counter sells a whoopie pie for $5.50, a chocolate brownie for $5.50, a magic bar for $5.95 and a peanut butter graham bar for $5.95. The Creamery is open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, so it is the easiest downtown cookie after dinner. Pair a cookie with a milkshake for the full diner experience.
Bakery cookies
La Baguette, Stanford Shopping Center
La Baguette lists a chocolate chip cookie at $4.50 and two at $5: a cranberry and white chocolate oatmeal cookie and a raspberry walnut shortbread with raisins and jam. Its palmier, a caramelized puff pastry, costs $6. Its macarons are $4.50. The bakery is open until 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
Mademoiselle Colette, Lytton Avenue
The French pastry shop at 499 Lytton Avenue does not run a cookie case as such, but its palmier at $5.50 is a buttery, crunchy alternative. It closes at 4 p.m. and at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Yutori, El Camino Real
The cafe at Yutori, 3375 El Camino Real, bakes Japanese-style sweets such as sesame cookies alongside its matcha drinks. It is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Cupcake shops and gelato
- Kara's Cupcakes, Town & Country Village. Cookies have their own section on the menu. Its famous chocolate chip cookie also comes baked into a whole cookie cake with a piped message. The menu has a gluten-free and vegan section.
- Sprinkles, 393 Stanford Shopping Center. Cookies sit beside cupcakes and layer cakes, with online ordering for pickup, curbside or delivery.
- Bacio di Latte, Stanford Shopping Center. The gelato chain sells a cookie selection and will add a scoop of gelato on top. See our gelato guide.

The chain runs a weekly rotating menu of oversized cookies, with mini pies and cakes appearing in some weeks. Ordering cookies for a group
- Count two per person for a dessert table and one per person when cookies sit beside cake.
- Order a day ahead. Antoine's and Crumbl both take catering orders. A day's notice is a sensible minimum for a big tray.
- Mix textures. Combine a crisp-edged cookie with a soft one and something without chocolate.
- Label nuts. Macadamia, walnut, peanut butter and pecan cookies are common. Ask for them packed separately.
- Warm them up. Five minutes in a 300°F oven brings back a just-baked texture.
Holiday cookie season
From Thanksgiving to New Year, cookie trays for offices, teachers and neighbors push demand up at every shop on this page. Order catering trays a week ahead in December rather than a day ahead. Expect the most popular flavors to sell out by mid-afternoon on the weekends before Christmas. If you want decorated sugar cookies for a holiday party, ask Kara's or Sprinkles what they are offering that season, since both run seasonal collections. Our holiday season guide covers what else is happening in town.
