Palo Alto is not a sports-bar town, but it is a good place to eat chicken wings. The city's restaurants come at them from many directions. A Detroit-style pizza shop fries Buffalo and Szechuan wings. A Jamaican kitchen grills jerk wings. A Vietnamese pho shop fries wings in garlic and fish sauce. A Thai and Vietnamese restaurant makes stuffed Angel Wings and spicy Demon Wings. A chicken chain on El Camino Real sells seven flavors in counts up to 20.
This guide sorts the wings in town by style, with the sauces and heat levels as each restaurant names them on its own menu. Every place below was confirmed in late October or early November 2026 through its own website or a verified page in our business directory. Prices come from posted menus and change often, so treat them as a guide.

Wing styles in plain terms
- Buffalo. Fried wings tossed in a hot sauce and butter mix, served with celery or carrots and blue cheese or ranch. Named for the city in New York where the dish began in the 1960s.
- Dry fried. Wings fried until crisp and tossed with spices instead of a wet sauce. Szechuan-style wings use dried chiles and numbing peppercorns.
- Jerk. Jamaican jerk marinade of allspice, Scotch bonnet chile, thyme and scallion, cooked on a grill for a smoky char.
- Fish sauce wings. A Vietnamese bar snack. Wings are fried and glazed with garlic, sugar and fish sauce until sticky.
- Boneless. Pieces of breast meat breaded and sauced like wings. Easier for kids and for eating in the car.
Bone-in wings come as a flat, the two-boned middle section, or a drum, the little drumstick. Most kitchens mix the two in one order.
Classic American wings
Square Pie Guys, 369 South California Avenue
Square Pie Guys is a Bay Area chain known for Detroit-style square pizza. Its menu lists three wing dishes, each with six all-natural jumbo wings: Buffalo Wings and Hot Honey Buffalo Wings with carrot sticks and blue cheese or ranch, plus Szechuan Wings, dry fried with green onions and a cilantro lime crema. All three are marked GF and each was listed at $15. A pizza and two orders of wings feed a small group on California Avenue. The shop opens at 11:30 a.m. daily.
Starbird, 2515 El Camino Real
Starbird is a California fried chicken chain. Its menu sells Bone-In Wings and Boneless Wings in counts of 8, 10, 12 or 20, cooked to order. The house-made flavors are Lemon Pepper, Classic Buffalo, Sweet Thai Chili, Garlic Parmesan, Nashville Hot or Blazin' and Cali Gold BBQ. Both wing types are marked GF, though the menu notes that the Sweet Thai Chili sauce contains gluten. It is open into the evening every day and suits a game-night pickup. Our fried chicken guide covers its tenders and sandwiches.
The Patio, 412 Emerson Street
The Patio is a downtown bar and restaurant with a big outdoor space. Its menu lists Patio Wings, 12 crispy wings tossed in one of four house-made sauces: atomic fire, which the menu calls crazy hot, original, chipotle or sweet and spicy. It is the place in this guide where wings come with a beer and a game on. It opens at 11 a.m. every day. Our sports bars guide, linked below, has more places to watch.
Curry Pizza House, 320 University Avenue
Curry Pizza House tops pizza with Indian flavors and serves wings and salads on the side. Its hours set it apart: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. That makes it the latest wing order downtown.
Jerk, fish sauce and Thai wings
Coconuts, 642 Ramona Street
Coconuts is a Caribbean restaurant run by Jamaican-born chef Robert Simpson. Its menu lists Coconuts Famous Jerk Wings, smoky grilled wings in a house jerk glaze and marked GF, at $18. Buttermilk Fried Chicken Wings, double dipped with island spice, ranch and hot sauce, cost $16. Grilled jerk wings are less greasy than fried wings and carry a slow, building heat. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.
Pho Ha Noi, 185 University Avenue
Pho Ha Noi is a pho specialist, but its appetizer list includes Garlic & Fish Sauce Wings (canh ga chien nuoc mam), listed at $13.50. They are sweet, salty and sticky. Order them as a starter before a bowl of noodle soup. The kitchen closes between lunch and dinner. Our pho guide covers the rest of the menu.
Indochine, 2710 Middlefield Road
Indochine in Midtown lists two wing dishes on its Thai and Vietnamese menu. Angel Wings are chicken wings stuffed with chicken, egg, mushroom and vegetables. The menu warns they take extra time. Demon Wings are spicy fried wings with garlic, onion, red bell pepper and jalapeño. Both were listed in the mid teens.
Asian Box, Town & Country Village
Asian Box at 855 El Camino Real lists Asian Wings in Mango Habanero, Garlic Soy or Miss Jones Sriracha Buffalo. The company says its whole menu is gluten-free, which makes this the simplest wing order for someone with a gluten allergy. It stays open through the afternoon.

Heat levels and sauces
Wing heat is relative. Each kitchen sets its own scale. As a rough guide from mildest to hottest:
- Garlic Parmesan, Lemon Pepper, Garlic Soy and fish sauce wings carry little or no chile heat.
- Original, Sweet Thai Chili, sweet and spicy and Mango Habanero sauces start mild and sweet.
- Classic Buffalo, Hot Honey Buffalo and Sriracha Buffalo sit in the middle.
- Jerk and Szechuan wings build heat slowly.
- Nashville Hot, Blazin' and atomic fire are at the top.
If you are ordering for a group, get one mild sauce and one hot sauce. Ask for extra ranch or blue cheese, since dipping sauce is what cools the burn.
Dietary notes
- Gluten. Square Pie Guys, Coconuts and Starbird mark wings GF. Ask about shared fryers if you have celiac disease.
- Fish. Pho Ha Noi's wings use fish sauce. Some Thai sauces do too.
- Dairy. Buffalo sauce is often made with butter and the dips are dairy-based.
- Halal. None of the wing kitchens here states halal certification. See our halal food guide for restaurants that do.
Ordering for game day
Wings are the Super Bowl food. Palo Alto kitchens get busy on big game days. Order ahead online and pick a time slot early. For a party, about six to eight wings a person works as a snack and twice that as a meal. Starbird's 20-count orders and catering platters are the easiest route for a crowd. Wings lose crispness in a closed box, so crack the lid on the drive home. To reheat, use an oven or air fryer at high heat for a few minutes rather than a microwave.
